Introducing our new regular meetup focusing exclusively on consumer analytics, data science and decision intelligence.

Whether you’re aspiring or new to the industry, or you have a keen interest in data and analytics, these meetups are for you.

We’ll be hosting presentations from guests or Hyper speakers, with expert opinions and case studies. There will also be networking opportunities with others who have a passion for analytics and data science.

Our first event is taking place virtually on 9th March at 5pm. Sign up on LinkedIn.

The first meetup features two cracking topics.

2) Shocking substitutions.

How affinity analytics can be used to avoid online shopping fails – talk by Jessie Stuart, Analytics Manager at Hyper.

If you’ve ever been stung by a silly substitution, you’ll find this talk particularly insightful.

About Jessie Stuart.

Jessie is Hyper’s Analytics Manager. She looks after our consultancy clients and delivers analytical projects, contributing to both technical delivery and consulting with business stakeholders.

Jessie’s initial interest in data science was sparked during her Mathematics BSc at the University of Leeds, and she has gained an array of commercial experience across different analytical roles within financial services, gambling, and retail.

Check out our podcast to hear Jessie talk about how TikTok’s recommendation algorithm keeps users coming back, time and again.

2) Key skills to thrive in data and analytics roles.

Panel discussion with Michelle Morris (Associate Professor at University of Leeds), Charlotte Barnes (Engineering Manager at Asda) and Anna Cescon (Senior Data Scientist at Hyper).

Sign up to hear the panellists’ advice on important soft and technical skills, key tools, advice for those looking to get into the industry, plus questions submitted by the audience.

About Charlotte Barnes.

Charlotte Barnes is a Data Engineering Manager at Asda, with over eight years’ experience in software and data engineering. She is especially interested in how we can adapt to big data ecosystems without losing the values of traditional analytics databases, as well as create environments that allow data scientists to explore data easily and flexibly.

Charlotte is joining our panel to discuss getting into data science, including the skills needed to thrive in the world of analytics.

About Michelle Morris.

Michelle is an Associate Professor in Nutrition & Lifestyle Analytics at the University of Leeds and a Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute.

As well as a background in interdisciplinary research, Michelle has commercial experience at EMIS Health. She is particularly interested in how data and consumer analytics can be combined with health information to help consumers make informed choices about healthy and sustainable diets and physical activity. These interests align to her affiliations with both the School of Medicine and the Consumer Data Research Centre at the University of Leeds and the Turing Institute. Michelle co-chairs the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics Data Scientist internship programme advisory group and teaches spatial data science methods for health research.

About Anna Cescon.

Anna is a Senior Data Scientist at Hyper. She supports our consultancy clients with modelling and analytics, with a special focus on product attributes and what they can tell retailers and brands about customers. Anna has been working in data science for the last four years, initially in the water industry and later moving into retail.

Anna also volunteers as a STEM ambassador at schools and events. She’s joining our panel to discuss her journey into data science, as well as how students and young professionals can equip themselves for a career in analytics.
